RISE
As I drove into Yosemite on this afternoon after a major snow storm, the park was shrouded in fog. Getting to the bend in the Merced River with a perfect view of El Capitan was easy as not many other people had bothered to come into the park under these conditions. But I knew there were clouds breaking to the west and if that continued something special could happen. Setting up my camera on the river’s edge, the towering granite peak was completely obscured by the mist. And then slowly, oh so slowly it began to clear. Now if only the sun could break through I hoped. And then it happened! First a sliver of light midway up slicing the face. And then a little more and a little more. A couple people had set up near me now as I was literally cheering on the light out loud. “C’mon, c’mon, you can do it……..YES!!!! Yeeeeeehaw” just as the light set the majestic rock face aglow as El Cap rose from the mist below.

MANAROLA STORM
This quintessential town on the Italian coast was evacuated for a winter storm when we arrived. No businesses were open and our AirBnB host failed to mention this to us. Sure it was drizzling a little bit and the clouds here looked ominous, but it seemed like an overreaction. Nevertheless we were happy to have this entire little town all to ourselves for a night.
THE GRAND CANAL
A beautiful scene at sunset with the gondolas returning for the evening on the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy.
COMING TOGETHER
Bruarfoss is my favorite waterfall in Iceland and it's not even close. The color of the glacial water is breathtaking and rock formation and cascades are very unique. Yet on my many trips, I had never witnessed a great sunset there until September 2019 when everything came together.
FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH
Seljalandsfoss is a popular waterfall and for good reason, just look at this view at sunset
ALONE AT TREVI FOUNTAIN
If you want to have this classic fountain in Rome all to yourself, show up at 5 a.m. in the morning. The night before at 10 p.m. there was easily a thousand people vying for a spot to take their selfies.
