A DESTINATION EARTH PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Scotland’s is a country of stunning natural landscapes including dramatic coastlines and impressive rock formations. The scenes are unmistakable and rugged, and the light can be something straight out of a dream. The Highlands are the epitome of this and will be our home for the duration of this workshop. Ancient castles, peaceful lochs, towering mountains, and cliffside vistas await! The sense of awe here is real and the potential for interesting weather only adds to the mystique of what can be created with a camera.
On this 7 day / 6 night photography workshop we will be aiming to capture the incredible, otherworldly scenery of Glencoe and the Isle of Skye. All lodging and transportation will be included. Throughout you will be provided with expert instruction from our professional photographer guides on how best to capture the light and interesting compositions. The goal of the workshop is to give you the ability to explore, learn, and fine tune those photography skills both in the field as well in post processing development to bring your images to life. Helping clients create a portfolio of images they are excited and proud of is priority number one on all of our workshops (along with having a good time).

ITINERARY
After arriving in Glasgow on April 27th you will be received at the airport and transported to our hotel in Glencoe. After getting to know our group over dinner we will head out to our sunset location. From there we move on to the Isle of Skye for four nights and then back to Glencoe for our last evening of the workshop. Each day we will be out early to photograph sunrise, have a midday break or drive to our next hotel location, followed by a sunset session. Potential locations along our journey include Blackrock cottage, Glen Etive, Glencoe, Kilchurn castle, Eileen Donan castle, Buachaille Etive Mor, Old man of Storr (45 minute hike), Fairy Pools (30 minute walk), Fairy Glen, Neist point lighthouse, Quiraing, Sligachan, Elgol, and some other hidden gems. There will be NO SET itinerary for this trip as we prefer to keep a close eye on weather forecasts throughout the tour to determine our destination and make sure we have the best possible weather that may suit a specific place.
All transportation and lodging is included for the nights of April 27 - May 2, with a transfer to the Glasgow Airport (GLA) on May 3rd. Lodging arrangements are Single Occupancy rooms.
USEFUL INFO / PHYSICAL DIFFICULTY
Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from Scotland and must have a valid passport to do so. An Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA/Visa) is also required for all people traveling to the United Kingdom.
Temperatures this time of year can range from will be in the 40s - 50s Fahrenheit, with a variable climate including potential high winds and rain. The weather in April will no doubt be dramatic, with even the possibility of snow. Sunrise is around 6:30am and sunset nearly 9pm. Weather permitting we will be shooting on all days. By night, should weather favor us, we are just a stones throw from epic dark skies to shoot if we’re really lucky, THE NORTHERN LIGHTS!!!
It is important for participants to be in good physical health. This trip requires a moderate fitness level, The Old Man of Storr is a 45 minute moderate hike with elevation gain and The Fairy Pools and Quiraing are a 30 minute walk.
AIRPORT / ACCOMODATIONS / FOOD
This workshop will start and finish at the Glasgow airport (airport code GLA). Participants should arrange to arrive by 2 pm on April 27th and will be dropped off in Glasgow by 12 pm on May 3rd. Please plan to fly home after that factoring in time needed at the airport. Throughout the trip you will be transported in a comfortable, spacious 9 seater van.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
An adventure in the Scottish Highlands with scenes and vistas that will simply take your breath away. With a bit of good luck the weather will be on our side with stormy, drama filled skies to add to the power of the views in front of us. Whether it’s reflections on a lake, meandering creeks and cascades, or rock spires pointing to the heavens, there will always be something beautiful to photograph and our knowledgeable guides will do their very best to get you in the right place at the right time.
While there will be early days and some late nights, the field sessions are structured to not wear anyone out and get the most enjoyment of the surroundings and scenery. In the field techniques and tips will be provided to help capture images correctly "in camera" with the goal being that part becomes second nature and students can then focus on the creative aspects of landscape and nature photography. Post processing instruction will run the gamut of importing and organizing files into Lightroom to processing images in Lightroom and Photoshop and finally prepping images for the internet or for print. We are an open book and willing to share any tips or tricks we’ve learned to help you turn your photographs into wall hanging art!

Blending images in Photoshop
Dodging and burning
Using layers and masks
Mindful sharpening (depending on the output)
Image Critiques
RECOMMENDED CAMERA GEAR, ETC
DSLR or Mirrorless Camera (full frame preferred)
Zoom Lenses ranging from wide angle (12mm) to telephoto (300mm)
Filters: Circular Polarizing Filter and Solid ND filters (6 stop & 10 stop). We do a lot of very long exposures on this trip, please have all of these filters for your lenses.
